Mercy Health partnered with Lifepoint Rehabilitation on the plans for a two-story, 66,000-square-foot rehabilitation facility in the heart of the community.
“This is a very, very exciting day for us that we’ve been looking forward to now for some time,” said Dr. Luellen. “As the health care needs of the Valley have evolved, we try to evolve with those needs. We’re proud to announce that today we’re going to be launching the construction of a 60-bed inpatient acute rehabilitation hospital.”
Services, hospital features
Mercy Health Rehabilitation Hospital patients will have access to physical, occupational and speech therapy and rehabilitation and medical and surgical consultations.
“This is going to allow us to care for a very complex group of patients with complex medical needs and really builds upon the service we’ve been providing here in the Mahoning Valley for a number of years,” said Dr. Luellen. “The 60 bed unit nearly triples our capacity to provide care for these people who are suffering from spinal cord injuries, complex neurological disorders or other orthopedic conditions.”
The preliminary hospital plan includes a rehabilitation gymnasium and therapeutic courtyard with pickleball.
According to Mercy Health, the units will be structurally designed for patients receiving acute inpatient rehabilitation care for stroke, traumatic brain injury, amputation and other injuries and disorders.
“Our clinicians will work with the patients to develop individualized treatment plans and help work to manage their program with care and compassion to deliver outstanding outcomes as well as a superior patient experience,” said Dave Stark, vice president of operations for Lifepoint Rehabilitation.
Stark leads operations for the company’s 41 inpatient rehabilitation hospitals nationwide.
“We know that Mercy Health together with us are a partner that is going to promote high quality and outstanding patient care... as well as improving patient’s lives,” said Stark. “As we sit here today, there’s a lot to happen on this plot of land, a lot of building that has to go up and a lot of work has to be done... but I’m extremely excited to be here. It’ll be extremely excited to be back here in a year when we open Mercy Health Rehabilitation Hospital.”
